This COVID-19 pandemic has been affecting our life in various ways from toilet paper to relationships. Due to current stay-at-home orders, are you stressed out because you cannot meet your important one as much as before or because you are with him or her every day whole day?? KALB news on April 16, 2020 reported that domestic violence calls increase during the COVID-19 pandemic. When families spend more time together, domestic violence rates go up.
Yasmin Anwar at UC Berkeley introduced important advice from relationship experts how to stay healthy in family and intimate relationships during stay-at-home orders.
- Don’t beat yourself up. Be kind to yourself and your partner
- It’s OK to grieve. We have lost a lot
- Kids get stressed when parents argue, so don’t scare them
- Work through the hard stuff, and show vulnerability, not anger
- Be open to adjusting your usual roles in the relationship
- Carve up space for time alone and togetherness
- Split up housekeeping chores in a way that makes sense
- Instead of catastrophizing, do things together that you enjoy
- Don’t be afraid to seek advice or professional help
- Fantasies about being single are just that
- Domestic violence is a real threat. Take it seriously
